10 Guidance Techniques for developing positive Behavior in childhood

Parents play a significant role in child developmental process. They face different types of challenges regularly. It is a difficult task to guide the child in a positive way. Parents require discovering the effective ways and techniques that help them to develop positive attitudes and social behavior in their children. The following methods can play an important role in the development of positive behavior in childhood.

            1. Use the Word Do Instead of Don’t

 Don’t use the world stop, quilt and don’t do that but tell the child what is right and what is wrong.  When a child realizes that the specific habit, action, and activity is harmful to his health and safety, he automatically starts to keep away himself from the harmful activity.  For Example, when a child starts to play with a boll, Parents should change the words “don’t throw the ball” with the “Roll the ball on the flower”.  When a child hit his brother don’t say to your child “don’t hit he brother” but you should say hitting hurts.

  2. Value the Child Ability

 Children require developing a belief in their abilities to achieve tasks. Encourage children to do new things. Sometimes parents stop the children to do new things because they believe that their children are too small and they are not able to do certain things and tasks.   The lack of the parent’s confidence in the child’s abilities can destroy the confidence of the child in their abilities. Don't undervalue the child abilities. For example: let the child use the computer when he becomes able to use it.  There are many things and tools are available at home and let the children use tools such as computer and mobile. Parents and families should allow the child to use these things without any hesitation.

           3. Change the Situation to Change Behavior

Changing situations is an effective technique for change child behavior. Parents/ teachers can change negative behavior by changing the surrounding environment.  For example, when children start fighting in the back seat of the care, change the situation and give the toys to play. It is the parental responsibility to think that how they can change the situation to prevent negative behavior.

              4. Provide the more than one Choice for your child

 This activity plays an important role in the development of positive behavior in childhood. Parents should not insist that the child must choose the specific choice and obey the order. Parents must provide more than one choice for the child and child have an opportunity to choose one of them. For example, Parents say the child ‘wear the coat” instead of this, they can say “you have to wear the black coat or red jacket” before going to dinner. This practice helps the children to improve their decision-making skills. The parent should provide the desirable, simple and acceptable choices for children.

              5. Care the Emotional and Physical Needs of Child

Work for children, not work for against them. Parents should not ignore the primary and psychological needs of a child. The ignorance of the child’s primary and psychological needs may lead to creating many social, emotional and behavioral problems in childhood. It is important to know that children learn through their five senses. They need to touch, taste, hear, and smell to learn.  Parents give freedom to use their senses without any restriction. Put things such as boll, toys, and blokes near the child and let the child can touch them. Provide opportunities to use small things that are not sharp and harmful to the children. Children need appropriate activities to develop their senses.

               6. Set the limits for Children

Set the limits for the safety and protection of the child. Let the child make the decision under the limits. For example, stop the children to play in a dangerous place. Stop the children to play in the street because it may hurt others.  Tell the reasons behind the set limits.

               7. Listen to the Child Carefully

Parents should listen to the child when they feel anger. They think how long time you take to learn. The child has a short memory. Most parents say to their children “I have told you the dozen or hundred of time but you did not follow me”. Sometimes children cannot understand the parent’s instructions and feelings.  The aggressive behavior may lead to creating several behavioral problems in children. Listen to the child’s point of view and encourage him when he starts to follow the instructions.  Parents say the child “what we can do next, what is your idea about that”.

              8. Become the Role Model for Your Child

The child learns from parents through the listing, watching and hearing. Children start to learn from their five senses and parents teach them through their actions and behaviors. The child always copies the parent’s actions and behavior.

                9. Show the Love

Parents show love for their children.  They show their love during cooking, dressing and playing and parents respect the child choices. Parents should create an environment in which the child feels that he is very worthy and valuable at home.  The parents also show their love through open words such as “I proud of you” “I love you”.

             10. Look at the Future of your Child

Parents should look ahead. They must make the best strategies for child growth and development and try to make the child’s future exciting and happy. Provide healthy food and appropriate environment at home.

It is the parental responsibility to develop positive attitudes and behavior. The positive behaviors, habits, and attitudes relate to child success in the latter life. The parents and teachers must focus on the development of social and positive behavior in early childhood.
